Denim on denim always creates a nonchalant yet chic look, no matter what season.  I posted a denim outfit last autumn (see post here)  and I’ve replicated the same idea for the summer with different denim pieces that are more appropriate for the hotter weather.

When it comes to denim, there is something about wearing different shades of it that adds an element of sophistication to the outfit, so I paired a light-wash denim top with a medium-wash denim skirt as opposed to being monochromatic.  Choose a top that’s made of thin denim fabric.  Mine’s an old one from F21 and I’ve linked a couple of good options here and here.  The tie front of the shirt is a nice touch and it’s always been a favored look with summer tops.  The A-line denim skirt is a foolproof figure-flattering piece for petites as it creates the look of a smaller waistline.  The button down style of the skirt is also a popular trend this summer.

Loafers are pretty in now and these Vince Camuto ‘Kade’ Cutout Loafers in white make a great addition to my summer shoe collection.

Here is a closeup of the shoe.  LOVE the cutouts – I like how they make these loafers look more casual thus suitable for everyday wear (not to mention they’re also good for ventilation 😉 )  These shoes do run small, so order half a size up.  I’m usually a size 4.5 in flats but they were too tight so I had to exchange for size 5.

Here comes my new baby – this Tory Burch Block-T Leather Bucket Tote Bag was love at first sight!!  It’s also available in black but I chose ‘Vanchetta’, which is a light cognac color instead because it’s summer and I have too many black bags.

This bag is versatile and roomy so I’ve been carrying it to work and on the weekends.  The clean lines and chic design of the bag have also gotten compliments from coworkers and friends alike.  The bag is pretty reasonably priced ($425) considering it’s made of cowhide leather and the material feels more than its worth.  The surface of the leather is super smooth and the leather itself is pliable but not flimsy, thus able to form the perfect bucket shape.  For those of you who are worried about open-top bags, this bag is actually quite deep (11.5″H x 11″W x 6″D) and there’s a drawstring to close the top.  The size of this bag is also very petite friendly as you can see, it doesn’t overwhelm my frame.  Lastly, I love that the name of the brand is discretely embossed but the bag itself is stitched to show the letter T – how subtle and clever!

When I wear an outfit that doesn’t have prints or patterns,  I use accessories to make the outfit ‘pop’.  These fun UO Festival Round Sunnies go well with the outfit and  the orange half-frame gives off summer vibes.

I also wore a statement necklace and dangling earrings from my most recent Rocksbox set.  I reviewed Rocksbox in an older post which you can see here and I’m really enjoying the service as it allows me to try some of the latest jewelry trends for only $19/month and I’m all about newness when it comes to accessories.  Try it for first month FREE with my code:  TRAVELSIZECHICXOXO

Also, rule of thumb for accessorizing – try to keep to one statement piece as the main focus and avoid having to much “noise” (i.e. over-accessorizing).

Thanks for stopping by – stay cool in these hot summer days!!
